Liberty Theater

I keep talking about the challenges that this competition presents to our participants. Can you do clubs AND theaters? Does your comedy work for young AND old? Can your act get across to people who live in the city AND those who live in the country?

One challenge we didn't expect to present to the Semi-Finalists in the 31st Annual Seattle International Comedy Competition was "how to handle a smaller than normal crowd at the beautiful Liberty Theater in Puyallup." But, that's what we had on offer for Night Three of the Semi-Finals Week.

Liberty Top 5

L-R: Drew Barth (4th), Joe List (5th), Heneghen (Host), Eddie Pence (3rd), Auggie Smith (2nd), Billy Wayne Davis (1st)

Obviously, it would have been more fun to play to a sold-out venue--as previous years at the Liberty Theater have been--but that wasn't in the cards for this year. But, as they say, the show must go on...and there were certainly enough people in attendance on this Thursday night to have a good show...so, it would be up to our performers to deliver that show.

Top Five:

  1. Billy Wayne Davis (Seattle, WA)
  2. Auggie Smith (Portland, OR)
  3. Eddie Pence (Los Angeles, CA)
  4. Drew Barth (Seattle, WA)
  5. Joe List (New York, NY)

Auggie Smith drew the bullet spot on this night, going up after host Heneghen. He set the bar high, as always. The night closed with Billy Wayne Davis, who closed the show strong, as always. Those two once again found themselves in the top two positions for the night.

Once again, the large stage played right into Eddie Pence's strengths...and he earned his highest finish of the week so far, landing in 3rd. Drew Barth also had his strongest placement of the week, finishing in 4th. Joe List returned to the Top 5 on this night, while Dax Jordan--who had finished 3rd on both nights of the Semi-Finals prior to tonight's show--stumbled a bit.

Matt Davis, surprisingly shut out of the Top 5 so far this week, did manage to snag 6th place and Kortney Shane Williams remains consistent in getting solid scores without yet managing to break into the Top 5 for a night this week.

Consider another challenge, even an unexpected one like this was, met by our valiant Semi-Finalists! Next up--a much more exciting challenge: How much fun to have in front of a SOLD OUT Pacific Showroom at The Skagit Valley Casino in Bow!

That's what we've got lined up for Friday night!
