SICC-33: Why, there’s a lot of funny people in our town… No, not Grover’s Corners. This is Auburn.

Night Two of Preliminary Week One of the 33rd Annual Seattle International Comedy Competition brought us through the rain to the Auburn Ave Theater for a Friday night with a fine audience who enjoyed all seventeen of our competitors in this week so much that they all received the “tremendously obvious encore point.”

Our host (and last year’s SICC finalist) Rick Kunkler pointed out fairly early that the theater setting and the stage backdrop reminded him of Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town”.  On this occasion, however, it seemed like our talented roster had made Auburn theirs–at least for the night.

The Nightly Top 5 included some familiar faces from Night One (which isn’t surprising because nearly half the roster made the Top 5 on Night One)…however, Nathan Brannon from Portland managed to push his way onto the podium.  I should also give some love to Seattle’s own Jen Seaman, who finished in sixth place on the night.

Here, then, is the Preliminary Week One–Show Two Nightly Top 5:

  1. Michael Malone (Los Angeles, CA)
  2. Justin Leon (Kansas City, MO)
  3. Elliot Maxx (Ballard, WA)
  4. Nathan Brannon (Portland, OR)
  5. Ricarlo Flanagan (Detroit, MI)

We want to assure those of you following the competition from this website that Elliot Maxx does, in fact, exist–despite the fact that he has missed out on being pictured in the “end of the night Top 5″ picture both nights so far.  It turns out that Ballard has a very strict curfew and he needs to get back home before they turn the street lamps off.

NEXT SHOW(S):
SATURDAY NIGHT  November 3rd
Preliminary Week One-Show Three (7pm)
and
Preliminary Week Two-Show Four (10pm)
COMEDY UNDERGROUND, TACOMA

…yes, we’re doing two shows in one night!
