Long-time residents of the Seattle area may remember that a decade or so ago, one of the local newspapers wrote an article or had a contest about couples using a private, innocuous-sounding code phrase to refer to making love. I'm kinda fuzzy on the details.
Always willing to share tidbits of their sex lives, the locals wrote in with lots of cutesy stuff. But the favorite, hands-down (or whatever), was undoubtedly the couple who said their little private euphemism was "going to Tukwila."
And who "went to Tukwila" on stage? Not sure of the significance, but we had a tie for first between Key Lewis lookin' all gangsta, and Kyle Harbert lookin' all middle-school.
2. Lizzy Pilcher - who (inadvertently) had the best joke of the night - 3. Leif Skyving 4 - . Geoff Lott - 5. Rodger Lizaola.
For the non-locals, Tukwila is the town wedged between Seattle on the north, Seatac on the south, and Renton on the East. Claim to fame - not much. A strip of Interurban Blvd with a row of mini-casinos. Golfers, however, all know it because of Fosters Golf Links, a city-owned course that is really close to downtown Seattle and is extremely reasonably priced.
And greeting you at the entrance to Fosters Golf Links is Gordon's On The Green, a recently rebuilt combo restaurant, bar, clubhouse and pro shop. Gordon's features good food, affordable drinks, and an adorable banquet room that has become a regular stop on the Seattle comedy circuit thanks to local comedian/promoters Tony Daniel and Marcus Absher.
It was to Gordon's that we brought our tour on Thursday night. The waitstaff kept the the liquids flowing, with everybody, including some of the judges, taking on the glowing, cheery holiday spirit. Tonight we are headed for the Edmonds Center for the Arts. Hmm. I think the producers are taking seriously their mission of providing diverse audiences and venues.
