Seattle International Comedy Competition

Week 2: Gabriel Rutledge

Week Two of the Competition brings us 15 new comics competing to get into the Semi-Finals and hosting the week is Gabriel Rutledge.

Gabriel was the winner of the 2004 Seattle International Comedy Competition, which is quite a feat for a guy who only started in comedy back in 2000. Before getting into comedy, Gabriel had to make a painful decision; choose between stand-up comedy and his lucrative pizza delivery career. Relying on his razor-sharp material, lightning-fast audience rapport and a total lack of a fall-back plan, Gabriel was able to headline stages across the country and become a winner of this fabulous event where he was described as, “Perceptive and accessible, he does it all with a great deal of personal charm.”

He often takes an honest and self-deprecating look at his own life including his marriage. “Really there is nothing better for you as a couple, then to be out of shape. Eventually you just get to the point where you say “Well honey looks like we’ve eaten ourselves into a monogamous relationship.” And his finances.

"Looks like my son is gonna get free school lunch just like his daddy…and his grandpa. We’ve got free school lunch all the way back to the Mayflower. It’s a proud family. We came over on the short boat."
